Chen Jie is a renowned Chinese pianist residing in America whose career has taken her across five continents . At the age of 13, she received a full scholarship to study at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia . By 16, she had the opportunity to perform with the Philadelphia Orchestra , one of the five major American symphony orchestras , under the baton of the esteemed conductor Wolfgang Sawallisch . At 18, she won gold medals in three international competitions - Missouri Southern , Piano - E - Competition , and Washington International , and successfully held solo recitals at Carnegie Hall in New York , Lincoln Center , and the Kennedy Center in Washington , D .
